Sorry folks, video is here to stay!

by | Oct 25, 2016 | Digital Marketing, Paid Digital Advertising, Social Media Marketing

Even in a world where video is everywhere, some business owners still think that it’s still just a “fad”. I hate to break it to you, but video is only going to get bigger. Video is immediate, it conveys messages well, and it is very engaging. More and more users are consuming video content over written or audio, and studies have shown that users seek video content more often as well. In a recent study, it was shown that by simply including the word “video” in your email subject line, it will increase your open rate by 19%, and your CTR by a whopping 65%.

You may have some doubts, I’m sure. Video takes more time to create, it is more confusing than just writing an article.. the list goes on. This may have been the case five years ago, but in today’s hi-tech world, it is arguably easier to generate video content than any other format. If 10 year old kids are figuring out how to stream their video game and webcam to thousands of users at the same time, it can’t be that hard to make a quick video about your product or service, can it?

Social platforms make it easier than ever to publish video content. Google and Facebook both have very easy to use video interfaces, and there are dozens of app integrations that allow you to create and upload videos on the fly straight from your smart phone. YouTube itself allows you to author and upload videos directly from your phone, complete with custom annotations and notes.

While many people think that you have to have a $5,000 camera, and video studio in order to make video content, the simple fact that video has so accessible should easily dispel that myth. True, you should try to make your content professional, but that doesn’t mean you have to fly in Steven Spielberg just to make a few videos! It would do you well to do a little research about the best practices in filming (proper lighting, speaking speed, etc.) Beyond that, just try to be genuine and convey your message in a friendly manner; that’s all there is to it.

When making a video is easy as picking up your phone and hitting a couple of buttons, it’s hard to make excuses!
