Consumer attention spans are now literally less than a goldfish's. To make matters worse, we're dealing with content shock: there is so much content created that it surpasses our ability to consume it.

That combination makes it tough to get your message in front of consumers, let alone actively engage them. That's why your social strategy needs to include content that stands out and captures attention right away.

You are standing next to three switches. You know these switches belong to three bulbs in a room behind a closed door – the door is tight closed, and heavy which means that it’s absolutely impossible to see if any bulb is on or not. All three switches are now in position off.

You can do whatever you want with the switches and when you are finished you open the door and go into the room.

Connecting With Your Customers: Building A Strong Brand Backstory

In this age of social media ascendancy, it is essential to think about the personalization of your brand, and its ability to connect palpably to your target segments. The thesis of this article is that one of the underused ways to build a brand that really connects is to use a backstory approach. This approach is completely different than the usual brand-building done by companies because it looks backwards – instead of forward – and connects seemingly unrelated dots to build a coherent story of who you are.

Because it is a story of discovery, it can be a much more engaging approach, which is a real positive in the sea of mind-numbing boring brands swimming around on the internet today. And because it connects your history with your future, it gives social buyers something to ‘sink their teeth into’… something to join along with… a cause, if you will.

After I read this article, I was able to see the value of a disruptive leader. In fact, I agree with the 5 habits she discussed in her article… Well, mostly anyways. I’m not 100% on board with number 5 yet. I will discuss my thoughts regarding the 5th habit in more detail. First, here are the 5 habits of disruptive leaders stated by Faisal Hoque.

LinkedIn's New Feature - Native Video

I know you must be familiar with YouTube and Facebook videos by now. People look up videos every day and can find endless amounts of entertainment and content.

On Tuesday, LinkedIn launched a new app so that its hand-selected group of Influencers can create and share short videos directly to the app’s news feed. It’s the first time LinkedIn has ever let users upload video directly to the service, something that’s been standard on other social sites for years. If you are not one of the company’s Influencers, you won’t be able to use the new app.
