5 Tips To Improve Your Email Marketing Campaign This Holiday!

by | Nov 7, 2014 | Conversion Rate Optimization, Email Marketing

The holiday season is right around the corner and now is the time when most small businesses start marketing their holiday promotions through newsletters and email marketing. Most businesses understand the need to market to their customers, especially during the holidays. Unfortunately though, most of them also miss the basics when compiling their campaign.

Here are some quick tips to help you increase your conversion rates this holiday season!

1) Use short subject lines

In a study conducted by SalesForce, subject lines fewer than 10 characters long had an open rate of nearly 60%, which is much higher than the industry standards defined by Constant Contact, an eMail marketing service. Use short subject lines to get your point across right away. This saves time for the user because they know what is inside, and helps users convert quickly.

2) Properly capitalize your subject and headers

“5 Tips to improve your Email marketing Campaign!” or “5 Tips To Improve Your Email Marketing Campaign!” – Which looks better to you? This small difference may not seem like it matters, but to your users it definitely does. On a subconscious level, the use of capitalization throughout your headers and titles will spark more engagement.

3) Have a plan

Don’t just randomly cobble together a newsletter in hopes that users will magically see some element and convert; have a plan! Figure out what your goal is before you even write the email. Are you trying to sell a particular product or service? Do you have a special promotion? Are you trying to liquidate a large pile of stock? Figure out your goal ahead of time and plan accordingly.

4) Personalize your message

The users that receive your message are more likely to open and respond to an email that is personalized. Include their first name in the subject header for the email, and sign off with a personal message from yourself. This instills trust in the user and makes them feel special.

5) Test your campaign on multiple browsers/platforms

This is a big one that most people fail to do and in return can destroy your conversion rates: cross platform testing. When you craft an email marketing campaign, don’t just send one test to yourself and check it on one browser. Check your message on as many platforms as possible: Your phone, your tablet, your laptop, desktop; using Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.

Ensure that your message is received by as many users as possible!
